We've already got tickets to see Girlyman at the 8pm show at Freight and Salvage on Friday night. They've added a second show and I was wondering if any of y'all might be interested in seeing the 10:30 show. If so, I'd be up for seeing it again, for the fun of it. Advance tickets cost just a little bit less than $20.

Anyone? Bueller??

Ok, the weekend is nearly done. It's been full, eventful and fun. Friday, many good folk saw the Golden Compass with us, after even more good folk met with us for pre-movie hangouts and food and company and fellowship and Zombie Fluxx.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cat_herder, [livejournal.com profile] steluch, [livejournal.com profile] rissymonster, [livejournal.com profile] nietzche_gal (& beau), [livejournal.com profile] pandakun, [livejournal.com profile] sylphslider, [livejournal.com profile] darkcryst, [livejournal.com profile] miriammiriam! Much fun. Again! Again!

Saturday morning I went over to help [livejournal.com profile] jenderqueer move house. Got to see Johnny (surprise! small world!!) and met other very nice people. Lots of house was packed into a truck. After the half-day of moving (many hands, light work!), [livejournal.com profile] ca_snowflake, and I shopped for the SFSI cotillion, and drove to the SouthEastern corner of San Francisco county to a cute condo where many good people ate, drank & danced the night away. We got home... late.

This morning, I awoke to Johnny's phone call at darned early 0818. I was able to go from zero to fully-dressed-and-out-the-door in four minutes. We went to Jay's place (via Starbucks) to finish moving packed the rest into the truck. Met another excellent person. Drove to the new place (OMG House Lust!, aka wee bit o' envy). Helped transport wonderful things and wonderful people. Then there was moving, unloading, unpacking, lunch, cuddling, chocolate, more house-move-type-working, and then home. I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm also excited to go to [livejournal.com profile] sylphslider's birthday dinner tonight... in an hour or so!!, so it's all very, very good. I think, considering the four-point-something hours of sleep I got, after dinner, some bed will be well appreciated.

Tomorrow is the last day of instruction of my very first semester at Berkeley. Two more lectures, and then final12-17, final12-18, final12-20. Note to self: Need to determine final schedule for spring, for each of the classes I'm already signed on for. Oops, my participle is dangling.

Finaly... link potpourri, as promised. Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow why it's not pronounced obseenity.

I, a gamer, will not buy stuff for myself before the holidays!

The quote above is advice for gammers in SANDY'S SOAPBOX #127: HOW TO BUY GIFTS FOR GAMERS. Useful advice to friends of gamers, as well.

One of my new schoolmates is vision-impaired. I intend to invite him over sometime soon for dinner and after-dinner entertainment. I'd love to introduce him to the wonders of gaming, but what games are best enjoyed without needing sight as an essential component to play. Almost all of my card-based games are out, as is most of the Days of Wonder catalog, alas. What do you recommend?

[livejournal.com profile] ca_snowflake recommended that some icehouse games might work well, when playing games that don't involve the colors of the pieces.

Maybe I should skip board games altogether and go straight to RPGs? Anyone know where I might get some Braille dice, perhaps?

Edited to add: I found an interesting article on the subject.

I had an excellent lunch today. Fresh tamales (they don't have to be heated), some string cheese (I'm still a kid a heart sometimes), and LA's fruit salad (I made the fruit salad, it's her family recipe).

Some many years ago, when I first started going to these BYOF BBQs, there weren't so many of those really short proto-people I saw running about (or laying about) last night at the play, the potluck, and on the rock. What's happening that all my friends (extended and otherwise) are threatening to wed, are becoming troth, and are associating with these heartbreakingly adorable little creatures?

Could it be, that when no one was paying attention, when we were distracted by the mundane, that maybe we... <looks left, looks right> ...we grew up?

T, you were our Peter. Cy, you were our Smee. Where have gone Wendy Darling, Slightly, Tootles, Curly, Nibs, and Tiger Lily? How have they been replaced with people who talk of Joint-Filings and Legislative Councils, of Mileage and Foreign Policy?

Still, I can only be grateful, as I look through this window out onto the morning of a gray, dull, adult world, that you my friends, are ones with imagination. I am gladdend that, despite your necessary adaptations to the dreary world of Men and Women, Politics and Work, that you are people who can still retain the liberty and capacity from time-to-time, to remember how to have good kid's fun. My friends play let's pretend. They climb upon rocks like mountain goats in the dark. They sing songs and tell stories. They remember when it is necessary, that when we choose it, we can still be Lost Boys and Girls whenever we want.

This is why Indian Rock will always be a small part of Never-Never Land to me.

Thank you all. I love each of you so very much.

This morning when I was logging in to LJ, I noticed that the LJ opening page had the following:
The most popular interests on LiveJournal are:
music movies reading writing friends
I thought, that's silly, why would anyone list these as interests. Sure, everyone likes movies and music, and friends, and most people on LJ are self-selected readers and writers. Why not be more specific. Then curious, I looked at my own interests list and saw that I had indeed noted music, movies, reading, writing, & friends. I have removed these. Please note that this does not mean that I am no longer interested in music, movies, reading, writing, or friends. I still like all of these things. I onyl hope that music, movies, reading, writing, and friends don't take it personally, but I'm running out of space in my interests list, what with all the many things I have to tell you about my uniqueness through a list of (up to 150) nouns that are important to me, I haven't space in my interest list for things that really should be a given.

I am so totally taking this too seriously. ;)

I'm really looking forward to DunDraCon. It's been a year since I got an actual weekend of full convention gaming. Last year I ended up staffing at KublaCon instead of gaming, and then in September Conquest was, well, underwhelming.

After DunDraCon, I did a lot of thinking about what worked and what didn't, and decided that part of what didn't work was the fact that I wasn't running a game there. Last month I tested the game, and tonight after the gallery opening, I will print out the adjusted character sheets
and notes, pack my things, and prep for the con before a nice rest in my own bed. I'll get up bright and early Saturday morning, pack a lunch, and pop away to lovely, lively San Ramon. Woo! I'll be staying at the con on Saturday and Sunday nights, alas sans snowflake, but I look forward to having a good time anyways.

Plans for DDC:
  • Saturday - Looks to be pickups, with the possibility of maybe Greg Stafford's Pendragon game in the afternoon.
  • Sunday - Run the Short Way Home Ars Magica game, and then we'll see. Nothing calls out to me quite yet.
  • Monday - breakfast with Japji and KC staff meeting. Home.
Very much looking forward to seeing some of y'all this weekend.

Ok. Lunch now.

Ta ta.
