It is cool story, but you need to condense it. The first couple paragraphs are personal and mission driven-- the story is too long a diversion.
I had trouble writing my mission statement, because I shy away from tooting my own horn, but this is what you need to do-- you need to really phrase why your seeing the connections between all things, will make you a stellar teacher. You need to illuminate that history is not in the past-- but a current affair-- ergh-- bad phrasing--sorry.
Being a philosophy teacher I fight the perception that philosophy is ancient history-- I have to constantly illustrate how old wisdom applies now. You have a similar task. I can try to find my mission statement and email it to you later this evening if you'd like?
