Thomas Hawke is ten times the photographer I am

While walking home from Endgame, my FLGS, I encountered the protesters. I took some pictures, but skedaddled after the police started moving to surround the group. Then I went home to [livejournal.com profile] ca_snowflake. We got a call a short while later from a friend who'd gotten her dates mixed up, and was in Oakland with nothing to do. We invited her over here. We all hung out a bit, and played Pandemic, of course, before she went home. I got word that she was home safe about the same time as I read about the rioting. As we went to bed, we still heard helicopters overhead.

Getting up this morning, I found a set of photos from Thomas Hawke. His shots are much better than mine. I don't think I need to post any of my own.

This morning it seems that the helicopters are back, and the Tribune reports that police expect more of last night's antics to continue. Be safe, everyone.

ugh! i was planning on going to endgame tonight so the boy could check out the warhammer fantasy group and i could buy some of his birthday presents... riots are not an ok response to things imho.

Endgame should be safe today. I don't imagine the same thing is going to happen tonight.

yeah i called them and they said it was safe... just don't want to get caught in it... but hopefully it will be peaceful tonight in all areas of oakland.

I expect it would be peaceful. I would think the people who were letting out their rage "at the man" have probably burnt it all out for a while.

I was down there too. I actually had no idea the riots were going on. When I drove home, I saw a bunch of cops in riot gear. We had no idea what was going on with all the cops around. I didn't know there were even riots until the evening after when I was talking with my wife. She said she was glad she didn't know I was down there. When I drove home I saw cops in riot gear, but had no idea what was going on.

Honestly, staying in the store probably would have been the safest thing to do. My car was parked about a block away, I am glad nothing happened to it.
