who Votes anyway?

[livejournal.com profile] loupyone posted a cool youtube video encouraging people to vote, or not vote. Anyway, it made me curious. How many of us vote? This is a totally non-scientific self-selecting poll, so the data are useless on a large scale, but I'm still curious. I'll collect the data and provide the percentages, but otherwise the poll is confidential. If I knew how to make it anonymous, I would.

Anyway, here goes.

[Poll #1270701]

I have missed one election since my first in 1982, and that was six years ago, when I'd moved, registered with "motor voter," and it didn't take. I didn't know about provisional ballots, I got down to the polling place, and my name wasn't on the list, so I went home sad. We'd gotten a voter info packet for [livejournal.com profile] deyo and we never got one for me, though we'd always gotten two before, and I just didn't notice. (This time, we got just one, for "registered voters at" our address, no names.)

You don't have a choice listed for "I've sent in a registration card for my current address, but have had no confirmation that it has actually taken effect." My real answer is that I just *hope* I am registered at my current address.

You might be able to telephone your registrar of voters. Of course they might be busy at this time of year.

I didn't think of that. It sounds worth trying!

I just ordered Miriam's registration to vote the other night. She'd not filed it yet, and so would need to (as long as it's 15 days before the election, it's ok)

we also just got a single "for registered voters at" booklet...i think that's a good way to save some paper/postage/etc.

It would be really nice to opt out of the booklet and be able to access it online instead.

better question?

"Have you ever lied in polls about voting?" People are notorious for saying they'll vote and then not voting. :-(

I wish we had packets that said "registered voters at". We've got five extra voter packets for people who don't live here anymore. Argh.
