Sometimes, what with all of the frustration, anger, hatred, sin, pain, famine, war, and just plain hurt in the world, it can be easy to forget that there are occasional bright spots.

It is sometimes neccesary to seek after those bright spots just to have enough perspective to understand that the whole thing is worthwhile. To that purpose I humbly offer for your consideration... baby animals, bright sunrise on a frosty morn, the refraction of light by a prism, backrubs, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, tomatoes fresh from the vine, a genuine smile on a friend, monkey bread, happy children, La Dolce Vita, snuggling, and Jon Carroll.
Anthropologists sometimes get it wrong, in part because it's so much fun to lie to anthropologists.
How about you? Riddle me this dear reader, what things bring you uncomplicated joy?

I'm with you on that one! It's an unmitigate pleasure to do so.

...homemade raspberry chocolate brownies, looking at the sky, petting a friendly cat, watching a bird bathe, seeing a flower bloom where a bud was the day before, singing in the shower (which goes well with doing the can-can in a towel), and making a wish on dandylion fluff.

Speaking of lying to antropologists:

The study, based on telephone interviews with 1,461 participants aged 12 to 17,

You know, if, many years ago when I was in that demographic, some stranger, claiming to be a researcher, had called me up and asked me if music got me horny, I'd've figured them for a dirty prevert and hung up on them. But then, my momma raised me right (and didn't let me fall out of shopping carts onto my head).

Thanks for posting the shopping cart link. Since my babe can sit up now, I have sometimes put her in the cart, but I'm not going to again after reading that.

I included that link with the intent to make mock thereof, but YMMV :-)

The view from the top of Dolores Park. A sleeping cat on my lap. Finding a simpler and clearer way to write a program. Pasta with a bunch of olive oil. Stumbling across a book that I never knew I was looking for.

Hm.

Singing and dancing around, reading a new, highly-anticipated good book, smelling jasmine, watching people sleep, wrestling with my "nieces" and "nephews," licking the beaters after making a cake, going to the zoo or aquarium, having a good time with friends, and taking walks in the sunshine. And, yeah, hearing laughter. It's infectious.

Playing music with my friends.

I never feel as good as I do when I'm playing my guitar.

A bubble bath. A good glass of Scotch. A good book. My wonderful friends. My lovely family (though that's not so uncomplicated :)) Chocolate. Fresh strawberries. Clean sheets. A comfy bed. The unconditional love of an animal.

The moon, seeing my plants thrive, realizing a plant I rescued has pulled through & will survive, someone else's smile, making people smile, being able to relax in a warm place with an intermittent cool breeze, free time, explorations that bring discoveries, hummingbirds, my friend Angyl when she's happy, watching hawks soar, having just the right song come on while I'm driving.
